A picnic from heaven, where everyone is dressed in celestial white, gleaming in the darkness and beaming with excitement, 1000 attendees joined their white picnic tables for the Diner en Blanc event at the Gateway Plaza. As is the tradition of the international event, the location was not revealed to registered guests until the moment that arrived, having met a guide to escort them on arranged meeting places.

Many of the attendees, excited with the mystery and costumery of the event, attended because they had heard about the event other cities like Philadelphia and D.C. Most famous is Paris where the event began 27 years ago. Picnic-goers would be asked to wear white to identify each other, but it also symbolized the manner in which they would convene on a public or landmark location taking great care to behave angelically leaving no trace of their revelry behind. In fact, everyone is asked to bring a white trash bag for their personal use and leave with it. White trash is the best trash, apparently.

Event organizer Jenny Altman was pleased with how the event unfolded, especially when it came to the night’s weather forecast. Rumors that the event would be held at the Point abound, but instead the escorts guided the guests not to the marshy park turf but to the safe sidewalks surrounding Gateway Plaza’s fountain.

By night’s end many people were splashing their toes in the waters to the beats of DJ Nugget. It was everybody’s wedding night including a fountain side proposal and dancing women wearing matching outfits.
