This was the second year I got to interview Jean Cruguet, who rode Seattle Slew in 1977, he once again pinned the Derby Winner California Chrome. After speaking with the Boyle sisters it was inspiring to see that the sport respect and honors its valiant horses for their strength and grace. Rosie Napravnik was present at the Ball and is huge advocate for Old Friends as we learned from the Aimee and Kim.

Although Tonalist out ran California Chrome‘s hope to break the 36-year drought of Triple Crown winners, it just goes to show how gorgeously strong and well-trained the field has become since Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Affirmed.  Until next year in Kentucky when the thunder begins again!
