T he mere mention of her name at the Julep Ball send me in tears. The news reel of her hospital interview after surviving a house wrenching tornado in the early spring and how she shielded her children and lost her legs holding onto them spoke to every fiber and fear I have as a mom.

When I asked her what from her childhood influences her amazing bravery she was quick to say her family would do it for her. She grew up in a strong family.

“Strength influences me and got me through what I went through. I stand up for myself and that carried me through getting hit by that tornado.”

She will have to undergo a lot of rehab before she stands on her own again, but she said she had her family and that is most important.
